Lambina Opal

When virgin mining ground in and around Mintabie started becoming scarce, many miners re-located to Lambina to try their luck.

Although opal had been discovered there some 60 years earlier, not a lot of mining was carried out and no-one could have foreseen the vast amounts of opal that lay beneath the ground in a relatively small area around Lambina.

Hot, harsh and desolate, this remote area of South Australia has produced some spectacular opal.
