About our Photographs:At Opal-Trader.com we strive to make our photos as accurate as possible. Opal is truly a wonderful stone, with its colors dancing and transforming across each stone as it moves. We merely attempt to capture as much of this natural beauty as possible in a photograph.
With digital camera in hand (5Mpx Olympus C-5060) and some lighting, we photograph these magnificent gemstones hoping to capture some of their beauty. Sometimes justice is done and other times it can seem quite elusive. Most of our opal is photographed under a fluorescent light.
All our opal will look better when you receive it compared to our photos. A two dimensional image cannot do justice to this gem of gems. We do not manipulate our photos in any way.
That’s right, no enhancing, no color compensating or correcting, no anything. What you see is what the camera captured in that split second. We will sometimes sharpen a photo a little, particularly with opal jewelry, as the lighting we use for the opal sometimes leaves the gold looking a little dull. Apart from that, we simply take the photos and adjust their size to fit into our website.
When your holding one of our beautiful opals in your hand, then you will appreciate what we mean.
Below is a simple example of how a photo can be enhanced, a practice we do not condone.
Example: The beautiful black opal on either side is the exact same photo. The one on the left is the actual photo our camera captured, while the image on the right has been slightly modified using common software. Notice how the colors appear more vivid on the image to the right and seem to stand out more. This is just a very simple example of the type of manipulation that can be used to enhance the appearance of a photograph. At Opal-Trader.com we do not enhance our photos!!
