Australian Opal Snails

Opal Sea Snails are found mainly in and around Coober Pedy in South Australia. They are very rare and formed in cavities in the soil left behind when the sea snails buried there decayed hundreds of millions of years ago. Silica rich waters later filled these cavities in the soil and slowly turned to the beautiful fossilized opal snails we see today.

Opal fossil snails are an ideal addition to any fossil and specimen collectors' compilation, with some of the smaller opal snails suitable for setting into very unique jewelry such as earrings and pendants.
